The Maine Dems sent out this press release today:

(AUGUSTA, MAINE) - Maine Democrats' inspirational 2008 State Convention ended Sunday, capping off a weekend of rousing candidate speeches, delegate selection for the National Convention, and efforts to unify 3,700 attendees for change in November.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the convention's keynote speaker and the second ranking member of the United States Senate, drew a positive response when he stressed the need to unify as a party behind the Democratic presidential nominee and send a Democrat from Maine to join him as a colleague in the Senate.

The results of elections throughout the weekend were finalized Sunday.

Democrats selected the 24 delegates and 3 alternates that will cast their votes in Denver at the Democratic National Convention. Maine will send 15 pledged delegates for Senator Obama and 9 for Senator Clinton to Denver-the same result as the projected delegate allocations following the caucuses.

"Maine voters who took part in the Democratic Caucus in February should feel positive about this weekend's results because the proportion of delegates they elected was upheld, without change," said Rebecca Pollard, spokeswoman for the Maine Democratic Party.

Delegates this weekend also elected the four Presidential Electors, individuals who will each cast Maine's ballot for President in November-one for each of Maine's electoral votes. The individuals are: Tracie Reed, of Portland, Robert "Obie" O'Brien of Peaks Island, Sam Shapiro of Waterville, and Jill Duson of Portland.

The election for DNC Committeeman and Committeewoman resulted in victories by Maggie Allen, former Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party, over Rita Moran, and Sam Spencer, the current DNC Committeeman who will maintain his seat after running unopposed. These individuals will not take office until after the convention in Denver, and will serve four-year terms. In addition to Spencer, the current DNC Committeewoman, Jennifer DeChant, are superdelegates in this year's presidential nominating process.

Democrats also finalized their platform, enacting some new amendments with little fanfare. Pollard said the party is working on implementing those revisions into a final document that will be made available on the party's web site www.mainedems.org as soon as possible.
